Mauritius, Pamplemousse Botanical Garden

Since we hadn't taken our honeymoon after the wedding we decided to go for a week to Mauritius late last December. We stayed at he Meridien Hotel on the West coast, 15 kms from Port Louis. The area is called Pointe aux Piments. The Meridien, although it sounds fancy, is nothing like the other luxurious resorts on the island. It has a family feel to it and at the same time has a section for "honeymooners" with 20 rooms and a romantic restaurant.

The hotel has 5 restaurants and since everything is included in the price when you book a room at this type of resort, we decided to try new menus everyday. The first day, we had breakfast at the buffet restaurant overlooking the beach and the main swimming pool!

After a few hours on the beach and before our skin turned into a red lobster color, we've decided to go and visit the Pamplemousses Botanical Garden (aka Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Botanical Garden).

After that we went to Port Louis for a quick visit. We drove to Fort Adelaide for a bird's eye view of the city. We then visited the impressive Caudan Waterfront complex filled with people late afternoons at that time of the year. A large Christmas tree and a Santa Claus were decorating the main entrance of this shopping complex.

Back at the hotel, I decided to go for a stroll and watch the fishermen at sunset.
